Kauai is located next to Niihau in the Hawaiian Island chain and is a wonderfully slow paced island with jagged mountain peaks and numerous waterfalls.
Our favorite waterfalls are Wailua and Opaekaa. We have young children so we wanted photo ops where we could easily and safely take our children.
Other great photo op spots on Kauai are Spouting Horn, Waimea Canyon, Poipu and Princeville. To see more pics of Kauai, go to this link:
We have two favorite restaurants on Kauai. The Dolphin in Hanalei for sushi and Monicos Taqueria in Lihue has the best vege nachos ever!
For lodging, we have stayed at the Aston Kauai Beach Resort and in the condos at Kahalani. Both are close to Lydgate Beach Park and has a great walking path. Currently, bonfires are allowed on the beach in this area. An open fire on the beach at night is a great way to spend an evening.
One of our favorite things about Lihue is the bike path right alongside the beach. It is an safe, easy ride for young children.
Please note: When traveling to Waimea Canyon, we should've checked the weather report first. We made the drive from Lihue to the Canyon to deal with a little motion sickness and to find the visibility to be approximately ten feet; however, we did get this great shot of a mountain bush which made the whole trip worth it!
We've spent less time on Kauai than other islands. After our last trip there, we will be spending more time on this beautiful island. Kauai is great for site seeing, hiking, kayaking, and relaxing. Kauai has some breath taking scenery!
