What Are Your Plans?

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11, NLT)


We have been so abundantly blessed by the outpouring of cards, texts, and emails since publishing our book, "Wholeheartedly!" Your love, support, and encouragement has been way beyond anything we could've ever ask or thought!

Yesterday, we received a card in the mail that included the above scripture. I kept reading the scripture repeatedly. This scripture left me with a list of questions for you today!

• What is your vision for your life? 
• Have you established a mission statement for your professional and personal life?    
• What are your five top accomplishments last year?
• What plans do you have this year that really light a fire under you?

In chapter twelve of our book, "Wholeheartedly!", we discuss vision and mission statements. Below, please find a few excerpts from our book.

"One day while homeschooling my girls when they were really small, the LORD impressed upon my heart to develop a Mission Statement for our family. I needed a clear, concise, easy Mission Statement that my girls could attach to. The LORD gave me, “To Bless Others” and it became our Homeschool Mission Statement." 

And, we had a situation at work and we discuss it in chapter twelve of the book as well.

"We began experiencing a lot of discord and division at our business locations. I couldn’t pinpoint what the problem was."

God has plans for you...very specific plans. And His plans always-always include goodness! Since you are reading this right now, perhaps it is time for you to establish a mission statement for your life.

Wishing versus Doing

But don’t just listen to God’s Word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. (James 1:22, NLT)

Last year, one of my friends told me she does two miles on the elliptical every morning at the gym. My first thought was, I wish I could do two miles on the elliptical every morning at the gym. Who am I kidding? At that point, (after a brief, meaningless affair with refined sugar) I was wishing I could do any time on the elliptical every morning at the gym!

I did a reality check and realized, two miles on the elliptical doesn't come by wishing. Change comes by doing. This year, I’ve desperately wanted to improve my life…in every area of my life.

So, on 1/1/14, I made (accepted and committed to) a list of personal challenges. I set some personal goals. One of which was, two miles on the elliptical…four to five days per week. The first day, I was able to do fifteen minutes. Which I was actually happy with because the elliptical was once my nemesis and I could only accomplish five minutes. I strongly wanted to overcome in the area of the elliptical. I wanted to sincerely like the elliptical. I pressed on. Within two weeks, I was able to do one mile. I pressed on. When I didn't feel like pressing on, I pressed on. When my flesh screamed, I pressed on. Within six weeks of the day I set my goal, I accomplished over two miles!

Everybody sing! “Oh happy day! Oh happy-happy day!"

Here is the thing. Had I stayed in my wishing…two months later, I’d still be sitting at my “hearing” and not “doing”.

Was the elliptical challenge easy? Nope. Shoots no. My flesh screamed the first two weeks. But as I set my mind against my flesh, I not only achieved my goal, I also experienced life and peace! (Romans 8:6)

We were created to progress in every area of our lives! We were created to be better next week than this week! We were created for vision! We were created to press on! (Proverbs 29:18, Philippians 3:14) When we have no vision and are not pressing on, we are going against our genetic makeup.

How is the best way for us to press on and have vision? By hearing and doing God’s Word! (James 1:22) Renewing our minds daily and utterly refusing to conform! (Romans 12:2)

I encourage you today, improve at least one thing in your life. Find something you really like to do and set a goal. Or, find something you really dislike and set a goal. Either way, overcome!

As for me and my elliptical, it is time to increase our vision.

Hello elliptical, come to me friend! 

Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray for every reader right now to awaken to You! Open the eyes of their understanding in all areas of their lives! Build a fire in them, a fire than can never die! A fire for vision, for themselves, their family, their church and their community! Please continue to teach us and please continue to order our steps straight into Your perfect plan for us! Thank You Father! Thank You for Your unfailing love and thank You for creating us in Your image! All glory and honor to You LORD!

My Children's Chazown

Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6, NKJV)

This past weekend I attended The Chazown Experience at www.legacykona.com. Please see prior blog post for more information.

In the class, I committed to use the Chazown Experience website (www.chazown.com) on an ongoing consistent basis in order to keep my priorities in line with what I learned in class. 

The Chazown Experience doesn’t focus on just one area of my life. It focuses on major key points keeping me aligned in order to fulfill the desired end result...the reason God created me.

This morning, as I was working on the website, I had a thought. 

What if, I had  the Chazown Experience when:

• I graduated college, or 

• graduated high school, or 

• before I entered college or high school? 

Then I went a step further, what if I had been given the Chazown Experience when I was a child?

Unfortunately, until I was in my late twenties, I had very little focus. For the most part, for almost thirty years, I lived day to day with little regard for my future. Thirty years is a long time.

Then I thought of my girls. God has given me the awesome privilege of training them up in the way they should go, insuring when they are old they will not depart from it.

Then my spirit leaped! I can walk my girls through the Chazown Experience now! So we started today! We are walking through our Chazown together! I am determined that this Fulton O’Hana will end up somewhere on purpose!

You are going to end up somewhere. The question is, will you end up somewhere on purpose?
